The Dan Gale campaign respects your privacy. Here's exactly what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Lawn sign requests: your name, email, phone (optional), address, postal code (optional), and any note you include.
- Volunteer signups: your name, email, phone (optional), how you'd like to help, and any note.
- Email signups: your name (optional) and email address.
- Donations: your name, email, phone, address, postal code, occupation (for contributions of $100+, as required by Ontario election law), and the amount. Required by the Municipal Elections Act for the campaign's public financial filing.
- Visit information: a small first-party cookie (called
gw_vid) is set on your first visit so we can understand how people move through the site — which pages they read, which videos they watch, where they came from. We log these as anonymous events tied to that cookie. If you later submit a form, that anonymous history gets linked to your contact record so we can see, for example, that someone who later requests a lawn sign first arrived from a Facebook post. - Source tracking: if you arrive via a tagged link (newsletter, SMS, social post), we record the source so we know which channels are working.
- Email opens & clicks: emails we send may include a small invisible tracking pixel that pings us when the email is opened, plus link redirects that count clicks. This is standard for newsletters.
- Technical: a one-way hash of your IP address plus the type of browser you used. We never store your raw IP. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic — pages viewed, traffic sources, broad geographic region (city level). GA4 sets its own cookies. You can opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Why we collect it
- To deliver your lawn sign and follow up.
- To send you campaign updates (email signups only). Unsubscribe anytime.
- To file the campaign's required Ontario public financial report (donations only).
- To know what's working — which messages reach people, which channels bring volunteers, what content resonates.
- To prevent spam and automated abuse.
How to opt out of visit tracking
You can clear the gw_vid cookie in your browser at any time. To stop tracking entirely on a given device, clear your cookies for galeforwasaga.ca and consider using your browser's "Do Not Track" setting (we honour it). We don't share visit data with anyone outside the campaign and we don't use it for retargeting ads.
Who sees it
Only Dan Gale and his campaign team, accessed through a private admin area protected by email login. Your information is not sold, shared, or traded.
How long we keep it
Until after the election, then we delete it. Email subscribers can unsubscribe at any time by replying "UNSUBSCRIBE" to any update.
